I can't really say when it was that I first met Curt. I went to University with his best friend Isaac, so he would come to visit him and we would often end up hanging out with a group of others. Apparently, on one of these visits, Curt asked Isaac about me and the possibility of dating me...but Ike told him he probably wouldn't like me, so nothing ever happened.
The year I graduated from University my best friend Jeanette, married Curt's best friend Ike, and we were both in the wedding party. Now, if you ask Jeanette's mom, she'll tell you that this was when Curt and I 'noticed' each other. I don't remember it like that though :) It's not that I disliked him or anything, it was just that I wasn't thinking about relationships at that point. I was only months away from starting a new job...in Malawi, Africa! I had signed a contract to work in Nkhoma, Malawi for the next TWO YEARS, so I was very focused (and excited) about that.
Things in Malawi didn't go as planned, and I had a really hard time being away. I remember talking to Curt while I was in Malawi, over MSN I think, and it was really easy to chat with him and he was very supportive and encouraging during our talk.
Unfortunately I was not able to see things through to the end, and I ended up coming home after only two months.
I faced new struggles when I came home - feelings of failure, not having a job, being back in my hometown with my closest friends all spread out now that we were done University. After about a month, I went to visit the newlyweds Ike and Jeanette for the weekend, and a few other friends were visiting too - including Curt.
From there we started talking regularly, and eventually started dating. We dated for just over a year and then Curt proposed...the story of the proposal deserves a page of it's own, it was well planned out and very special! We got married six months later, and now here we are, after almost FIVE years of marriage!
